Chapter 5
Alicia
From where I stood behind the bar, I watched as Ace walked into the room with his arm around a woman. Shaking my head, I resumed filling orders even though my eyes continued to stray toward him. He’d been working hard to get somewhere with me then he goes and has a random hookup in the back when I’m working. What a jerk.
“What can I get you?” I asked another customer.
“What’s your name?” He asked in return.
“Alicia. What can I get you?” I told him, resting my hands on my hips.
“Give me whatever you have on tap.”
“Sure, and it’s Alicia.” I quickly filled a frosty mug for him and told him his total. He handed me a bill. It only took a moment to enter it into the register and hand him back his change.
“Keep the change.”
“Thanks,” I said, realizing he’d given me more than a ten dollar tip, which didn’t happen often. That’s when I finally looked at him and realized he was actually pretty good looking. “What’s your name, hun?”
“Adam,” he said as his lips tilted in a sexy half smile.
“Well, just holler if you need a refill.” I winked and moved off down the bar to a waiting customer.
It was starting to slow down, and instead of keeping track of Ace, I found myself looking toward Adam instead. I couldn’t help but wonder what a good looking man was doing in a bar by himself on a Friday night.
It didn’t take long before things got busy again, as they usually did on the weekends, and I lost track of Adam in the crowd. Ace too.
The rest of my shift flew by as I rushed from one end of the bar to the other, dodging the two other bartenders working. When quitting time rolled around, I was happy. I’d made a good chunk of change, but my feet hurt, my back hurt, my head hurt. All I wanted was a hot meal and shower followed by a nice soft bed.
Dragging my tired ass out of the bar, I nodded to the two security guards that were only around on the weekends since that was when people usually decided to get rowdy. Once I crossed the crappy street to get to my truck, I collapsed into the driver seat. It took a few moments before I was able to convince myself to start the engine and drive home. The drive was short, and I was there in a flash.
After parking my truck in my spot, I walked toward my apartment. I kept my eyes peeled as there were always people coming and going, and I didn’t feel like getting robbed or being surprised by anyone out to do harm. As I fumbled with my keys to unlock the door, I heard footsteps approaching and looked toward them before opening the door. It was Ace. What the hell was he doing at my apartment?
“What…” I started, but he stopped me by wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me against him, his lips on mine.
